A tale of heroic men's great deeds

    THE STORY

-The New Legend of Four Men Connected by One Woman-

March 1st, 2010. Five past midnight. The Kamuro District, Tokyo.

In Asia's largest pleasure district, two "everyday" events happen at the same time.

A small, weak group in the Toujou Association, the "Kanemura Promotion." Two low-ranking punks get in a fight in Kanemura territory and guns are fired. The man shot to death is a man of the a criminal organization that has the Toujou Association as a parent syndicate, the Ueno Seiwa Association. The underlings of Kanemura Promotion frantically hurry to get a handle on the situation. In the midst of it all, however, the body of Kanemura Promotion's boss is found, stabbed to death....

This kind of little battle between yakuza groups is a common occurrence in Kamuro. However, this would turn out to be a hint of a scheme already in motion....

At that time, the short--and fierce--battle among men had already begun....

The true character of men who had hidden their ambitions would be exposed starting with this incident. Money and power, status and fame. These lusts, bared to the world, clash together violently.

However, in the middle of it all stood a lone woman's figure....

Four men, each with their own convictions, would come once again to the town as if led by this one woman and meet each other. It really is as is fate drew them there....

The "master plan" of those in power, which started with the chaos of some commonplace gunshot among two low-level punks and the Toujou Association's past.... The real truth of the caper will gradually become clear after many betrayals and much trickery has come and gone.

When these four men who never falter in the face of danger join forces, a new legend will be born in the Kamuro District.

    CHARACTERS

    - THE FOUR PROTAGONISTS -

The Legendary Dragon and Former Fourth Chairman of the Toujou Association
    KIRYUU Kazuma
    (Voiced by KURODA Takaya)
The former fourth chairman of the Toujou Association, Kiryuu is the former yakuza who's become legendary in the Kamuro District.

He lives a modest--yet peaceful--life with Haruka, daughter of his greatest love, Yumi. When he found himself wrapped up in the commotion surrounding land deals for a new resort in Okinawa a year earlier in 2009, he stood up once more for sake of the affected people in the region.

Afterwards--even after he had finished things with the men behind the troubles--he was confronted and stabbed by Hamazaki Goh, leader of the Hamazaki Group.

Narrowly escaping death, he returned to Okinawa and focused only on his recuperation. In March of 2010, his wound has completely healed, and he has now returned to his happy life.

High-Interest, Small Loans Homeless Man and President of the Loans Company, Sky Finance
    AKIYAMA Shun
    (Voiced by YAMADERA Kouichi)
Shun is a 33-year-old, mysterious moneylender who is said to have been homeless until just a few years ago. He manages "Sky Finance" out of a room in a crowded building on Tenkaichi Street.

Sometimes called "The Sanctuary," it's said that he makes loans to clients who were refused by other lenders, but his reasons for doing so are a mystery. Some say that he makes them meet special conditions, putting them through special tests.

Maybe it's because of his peculiar experiences as a homeless man, but he doesn't care about his outward appearance. Leaving the administration of his business to his employee, Hana, he comes in at whatever time he pleases, takes naps for as long as he pleases, and goes out whenever he wants--and he just goes out wearing whatever he has on. He's the quintessential "my way" kind of guy.

On March 1st of 2010, he was napping during the day on the sofa yet again when the phone rang. It was Hana, his employee, on the line.

Akiyama was forced to go and collect a debt from a customer. Going out into the rain in Kamuro, grumbling all the way, he gets wrapped up in a battle between criminal organizations....

Escaped Convict, Killer of 18 Yakuza, and Former Low-Ranking Member of the Toujou Association's Tsutsui Group
    SAEJIMA Taiga
    (Voiced by KOYAMA Rikiya)
A grunt of the Toujou Association's Tsutsui Group.
He is the perpetrator of the "Ueno Yoshiharu Raid," an incident that claimed the lives of 18 members of the Ueno Seiwa Association, a yakuza organization, in April of 1985. Suejima, raiding the Ueno Seiwa Association, enemy of the Toujou Association, was sentenced a few months later to death and imprisoned in a Tokyo jail.

25 years later, waiting for the day of his execution, he served his lonely sentence without even interacting with anyone.

But, in March of 2010, he suddenly found himself at a turning point.

He was transferred from the Tokyo jail he had lived in for 25 years.

The jail to which he would be transfered was some "secret jail" nobody knew about--a special jail for death row inmates. There were hardened, terribly wicked people assembled at this jail to which he was transfered without any given reason.

Among them, there was that former executive of the Toujou Association....

The secret truth behind the "Raid" would become clear over the 25 years. In order to prove the things he believed in true--and in order to stay true to his yakuza duty--Saejima makes his move, with death on the line....

The Policeman Called "The Tick of Kamuro," Policeman of the Public Safety of the Kamuro Station of the Metropolitan Police Department
    TANIMURA Masayuki
    (Voiced by NARIMIYA Hiroki)
A 29-year-old cop of the Metropolitan Police Department's Kamuro Station.
He's in the Kamuro District, which is Asia's largest pleasure district--and also the top spot for crime in the nation. He pays frequent visits to criminals, and looks the other way on their illegal affairs in exchange for bribes. Tanimura is a dirty cop, called "the Tick of Kamuro" because of these activities.

He shows an especially tough side to the Japanese businessmen who engage in making large profits by employing many illegal immigrants. He's also known to avidly love gambling. He's always doing things like listening to the horse races while on duty, frequenting mahjong parlors and placing bets.

He's always real wicked on the outside, but he actually has to great reasons to patrol the Kamuro District both day and night.

The first is to aid those who have a similar "alone in this world" situation.

The second is to find and stop whatever caused the death of his father figure, who saved him in the past....

    - Characters Involved in the Main Story -

The Woman Who Holds the Key to the Story's Mysteries
    Lili
    (Voiced by OZAWA Maju)
    Age and real name unknown.

A mysterious woman comes around to Sky Finance, run by Akimoto, who was taken off to the police station as an eyewitness at the time of the shooting between low-level punks in Kamuro.

She's come to Akimoto's believing the rumors that he will lend money to people who have no references. "I need you to lend me 100,000,000 yen in cash within 10 days," she says, but...what is she really after?

Low-Ranking Yakuza of the Toujou Association's Shibata Group's Kanemura Promotion
    KIDO Takeshi
    (Voiced by KIRITANI Kenta)
A member of "Kanemura Promotion," an organization under the Shibata Group, which itself is under the Toujou Association. He's a yakuza who always wears his heart on his sleeve and is very amiable, so he doesn't really give off the sense of "chivalrous duty." He's always following the second-in-command, Arai, trusting him fully.

He's one of the members who was involved in the battle with the Ueno Seiwa Association on March 1st of 2010. He teams up with Akiyama in order to search for Arai, who disappeared after the incident.

    The Toujou Association's Sixth Chairman
    DOUJIMA Daigo
    (Voiced by TOKUSHIGE Satoshi)
The sixth and current chairman of the Toujou Association.

He got caught up in the commotion over the land deals in Okinawa in 2009 and was shot down, but pulled through because of his strong will to live.

By his powerful volition, he managed to bring the Toujou Association back together just before it was destroyed by the struggle over succession to the chairman position.

Attempting to get a handle on the situation when the "shooting incident" involving the Toujou Association's Shibata Group's Kanemura Production member--an incident which happened during the efforts to rebuild the Association--he meets face-to-face with the second-in-command of the Ueno Seiwa Association, Katsuragi.

Even with this greatest show of faith on behalf of the chairman of the Toujou Association, negotiations were broken off.

Matters only seem to be getting worse.

Former Executive of the Toujou Association and Head of the Hamazaki Group
    HAMAZAKI Goh
    (Voiced by George TAKAHASHI)
A former yakuza who, until one year earlier, held the highest executive position of assistant lieutenant. Even though he joined forces with the Se Waa Chinese Mafia in the battle over succession to the position of chairman in 2009, his plan failed. His group was hunted down and destroyed.

He returned to Kamuro after that, seeking vengeance on Kiryuu, but ended up humbled by Kiryuu's strong convictions.

Now, in 2010, life in prison occupies his time, but his amibitions still haven't died down, and he continues to busily do things in an effort to once again make his way in the world of gangsters.

First-Class Detective of the Metropolitan Police Department's Kamuro Station
    SUGIUCHI Junji
    (Voiced by ENDOU Ken'ichi)
Displaying outstanding ability as top policeman in charge of homicide investigation in the Kamuro District, Sugiuchi is a shrewd, 30-year-old detective. He appears to be able to hold his own even against the yakuza and is known for violent, heavy-handed tactics in his investigations.

Since he shows special hatred to yakuza and to those who deal with the yakuza, he and Akiyama, who keeps lending money to the Kanemura Production yakuza group, get along like cats and dogs.

He runs Akiyama into the station regarding the shooting incident of March 1st of 2010, just because he was at the scene. Even after the interrogation, he stays hot on Akiyama's trail, believing he has something to do with it.

Second-In-Command of the Toujou Association's Shibata Group's Kanemura Promotion
    ARAI Hiroaki
    (Voiced by SAWAMURA Ikki)
As second-in-command of "Kanemura Promotion," a subsidiary of a subsidiary of the Toujou Association, Arai is a yakuza with high expectations placed upon him even by the boss of his parent organization, Shibata.

Acting in place of Kanemura, the Kanemura Promotion's boss, who has no hopes of rising in rank, he has essentially taken charge over the group's prosperity single-handedly.

Because of his character, which adds sincerity and firmness of resolution to the strong heart of a yakuza, he is trusted by many people about town.

On March 1st of 2010, in order to end the fighting that broke out when a drunken Ueno Seiwa Group member came to cause trouble in his territory, he headed to the scene but was shot.

He gave chase to the fleeing Ueno Seiwa Group member, but during the battle, he ended up shooting him to death.

Assistant Superintendent of the Metropolitan Police Department
    MUNAKATA Seishirou
    (Voiced by KITAOOJI Kin'ya)
The assistant superintendent of the Metropolitan Police Department, headquarters of all Tokyo policing agencies. He's a bit of a legend, since he failed the exams and was considered to have a very low chance of gaining a high position, but he overcame this barrier and made it all the way to vice-superintendent.

As section chief in the Metropolitan Police Department in 1985, he was involved in the investigation of attack on Ueno Yoshiharu, boss of the Ueno Seiwa Association.

He quietly watches over the actions of the officers in the Kamuro Station, including Sugiuchi and Tanimura.

Head of the Toujou Association's Majima Group
    MAJIMA Gorou
    (Voiced by UGAKI Hidenari)
Head of the Toujou Association's Majima Group.

Once called "The Wild Dog of the Shimano," he's one of the most famous yakuza who made a name for himself through his powerful fighting. He has a strong bond to Kiryuu because of Kiryuu's strength and always goes to great efforts looking for a fight.

Now, in 2010, he has resigned from his post as assistant lieutenant and has become a junior member in order to rejuvenate the organization. In order to support Doujima Daigo after the battle over succession to the position of chairman in 2009, he has once again lent his power in construction using the Majima Group.

He has vanished from the former West Park of Kamuro (also known as the "Sai no Kawara" or "Purgatory"), which once served as a base for his group. There are reports of him appearing all over town in order to make his group prosperous.

He's also rumored to know Lili, the mysterious woman who came to borrow from Akiyama the moneylender, but exactly how he knows her is unknown.

The Young Girl Living With Kiryuu
    HARUKA
    (Voiced by KUGIMIYA Rie)
Haruka is the 13-year-old daughter of Yumi, the love of Kiryuu's life.

She moved to Okinawa with Kiryuu and now lives with the orphans at the "Morninglory" child welfare facility.

A middle-schooler, she's regarded as an older sister by the orphans, who are only in elementary school, and so she watches over them.

In March of 2010, while walking the orphanage's dog, she finds a man washed up on the beach....

    - OTHER CHARACTERS -

Worker at High-Interest Loan Company "Sky Finance"
    Hana
    (Voiced by HIRANO Ai)
Hana is a worker at Sky Finance, a high-interest loan company run by Akiyama, but also acts as an ersatz boss of the company. She does things like set up payment schedules and administrative work in Akiyama's place, since he has no work ethic whatsoever.

Second-In-Command of the Ueno Seiwa Association
    KATSURAGI Isao
    (Voiced by TACHIKI Fumihiko)
Katsuragi is second-in-command of the Ueno Seiwa Association, which has ties outside of Tokyo. Acting in the place of Ueno Yoshiharu, the boss who is currently bedridden because by old age, he reigns over the Association as acting boss.

    DATE Makoto
    (Voiced by YAMAJI Kazuhiro)
Date was a natural-born detective who followed Kiryuu's case as a fourth-rate cop in the Organized Crime Bureau. After the "missing billion yen" incident in 2005, he resigned from the force. These days, he lives an independent life, working as a newspaper reporter. He's one of Kiryuu's most trusted people.

With its vast array of real world product tie-ins, one might have mistakenly assumed that the Yakuza series has been using in-game advertising technology since the original PS2 entry. With part 4, Sega will be tapping true in-game ad tech through Double Fusion Japan.
Yakuza 4 will make use of Double Fusion Japan's Dynamic Ad technology, Double Fusion and Sega announced today. The technology allows games to stream in new ads over the internet. Double Fusion will handle sale of the ads.
Double Fusion recently made headlines with the announcement that the PS3 version of Winning Eleven 2010 would make use of the in-game ad technology. Sega actually preceded that announcement earlier in the year with an announcement of a partnership with Double Fusion, although specifics were not mentioned then.
As with past Yakuza games, part 4 is also set to see tie-ups with businesses like Matsuya and Boss, which will fill its realistic city settings with familiar billboards and storefronts. Like Winning Eleven, this is one game where in-game ads should fit right in.
Look for Yakuza 4, properly known here as Ryu ga Gotoku 4, at retail this Spring.

Non che se sentiva la mancanza vista la pubblicità presente negli altri capitoli, ma se c'è un gioco perfetto per questo tipo di funzione, è proprio Ryu ga Gotoku.
